Park Operations Administrator - Sertich Ice Center

As a Park Operations Administrator, you will perform complex administrative, supervisory, and professional duties related to the maintenance and operation of Sertich, a 35,000 square foot indoor ice rink located in Memorial Park. With bleacher seating for 2,000 people, Sertich provides a wide range of programs and services for youth and adults, including public skating sessions, learn-to-skate programs, figure skating, drop-in hockey, private ice rentals, tournaments, and special events.

Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:

  • Manage the facility
  • Monitor routine and preventative maintenance, repairs, and capital improvement projects
  • Create and manage budgets; analyze spending and revenue trends; evaluate economic and business impacts to operations; and prioritize expenditures related to capital improvement projects
  • Manage the customer relations, marketing, sales, and promotion of Sertich
  • Create and use marketing and advertising programs, including social media, to attract and retain customers
  • Negotiate, review, and coordinate contracts; oversee and manage contract compliance
  • Provide exceptional business development and programming
  • Foster relationships with user groups throughout the community and region
  • Recruit, supervise, train, motivate, monitor, and evaluate staff
  • Provide seasonal oversight for an outdoor ice rink and public water features, including Prospect Lake (located within Memorial Park)
  • Provide excellent customer service; evaluate and respond to customer inquiries and complaints
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

Knowledge of:
  • Technical and operational tasks necessary to maintain an indoor ice rink
  • Operation and maintenance of the ice sheet
  • Industrial refrigeration equipment used in an indoor ice facility
  • Heating, cooling, plumbing, electrical, and structural matters
  • MaxEnterprises scheduling software, Active Point of Sale software, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
Ability to:
  • Utilize proactive, creative techniques to develop programs to encourage increased attendance
  • Negotiate, review, and coordinate contracts
  • Train staff to ensure compliance with all city, state, federal, and environmental policies and procedures
  • Anticipate personnel, equipment, and material requirements
  • Resolve conflict with staff and customers
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
Successful candidate will have:
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public administration, parks and recreation administration, business administration, or a related field
  • Five years of full-time professional parks and recreation program administration experience, including three years of supervisory responsibility
  • Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license
Ideal candidates will also have:
  • Experience managing an indoor ice rink
  • Program development, marketing, and public relations experience associated with a substantial recreational venue
  • Experience with recreational programs and venues, including outdoor ice rinks and water sports programs conducted at public lakes
  • Possess professional designation as a CIRM (Certified Ice Rink Manager)
Supervision Exercised: In this position, you will manage and monitor work performance by directing subordinate supervisors, including making final decisions on hiring and disciplinary actions, evaluating program/work objectives and effectiveness, and realigning work and staffing assignments.

Fiscal Responsibility: You will prepare the yearly budget for all program functions and monitor expenditures to ensure budget compliance.

Additional Information

Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, enter and exit underground vaults via ladders, and walking or standing to a significant degree.
