MAT Assessor

LMFT, LCSW, and/or license eligible to provide comprehensive assessments and appropriate services in the community for children and adolescents ages 0 to 18, as a part of the Mental Health team.

The MAT assessor is familiar with the process of the DMH Multidisciplinary Assessment Team (MAT) and is proficient in DMH paperwork and assessment procedures for children newly detained by the Department of Children and Family Services. The MAT assessor is responsible for completing appropriate and comprehensive assessments, ensures the timeliness of documentation, makes linkages to appropriate resources, and is able to travel throughout LA County. The MAT Assessor should have good clinical skills and experience in assessing and diagnosing children and adolescents ages 0 to 18 years. This individual should have excellent tracking and time management skills and demonstrate exceptional community collaboration and knowledge of the child welfare system.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assesses clients from birth to 18 years old for psychosocial, emotional, developmental, medical, and educational needs who have been recently detained from their biological families.
  • Works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary mental health treatment team towards goal of providing efficient and prompt mental health service delivery.
  • Meets with clients, individuals and families, in home, school, field, office or the environment conducive to gather needed information and to make appropriate referrals as needed.
  • Performs MAT assessments and Case Management duties as needed to link clients to treatment.
  • Maintains the overarching goals of immediate stabilization by minimizing the environmental and internal disruptions in the child’s life and promoting placement stability.
  • Maintains and documents regular contact with liaisons in accordance with agency and DMH/DCFS policies and provides on-going coordination of services through to linkage confirmation.
  • Completes required documentation according to DMH and agency standards.
  • Communicates with intra-agency departments regarding internal process of MAT cases.
  • Ensures that a thorough assessment will result in a draft Summary of Findings highlighting the needs and strengths of the child and family within their home and school.
  • Participates in the core team comprised of service providers and family support persons, and writes the final MAT Summary of Findings Report.
