Incumbents are responsible for performing journey level trades maintenance activities. Incumbents serve as a lead to Maintenance Technicians on assigned projects.
The Maintenance Specialist is the third level in a four level maintenance series. The Maintenance Specialist is distinguished from the Maintenance Technician by its responsibility for performing lead journey level trades maintenance activities. The Maintenance Specialist is distinguished from the Maintenance Supervisor, which has supervisory responsibility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
|1.||Serves as a project lead to Maintenance Technicians, including prioritizing and assigning work.||Daily
|2.||Repairs and/or regulates District buildings, fixtures, systems, facilities, and/or grounds by making journey level repairs or installations depending on area of assignment/expertise; responds to emergency calls for assistance; responds to customer complaints or safety concerns.||Daily
|3.||Installs, makes, and/or modifies a variety of materials, fixtures, and/or equipment.||Daily
|4.||Inspects facilities, systems, and/or fixtures and ensures periodic servicing.||Daily
|5.||Prepares paperwork related to daily assignments.||Daily
|6.||Maintains and cleans systems and equipment.||Daily
|7.||Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.||As Required|

High School Diploma or a General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.), and two years of journey level trades experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises, and travel.
Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
