CVS Health, now one of the top companies in the United States, is seeking a Head of Communications to support our Retail lines of business. You are responsible for developing and implementing an integrated communications program at the business unit/divisional level. You will serve as the "trusted advisor" to executive leadership over communications and their business leadership team, helping them achieve their business goals while advancing the overall reputation of CVS Health.

You'll take initiative to create communications plans to address highly complex business issues. You'll have responsibility for leading internal, external and crisis communications, harnessing the expertise of subject matter authorities, external advisors and internal partners.

Your ability to partner with colleagues across both the business and the corporate communications function to ensure alignment of strategies is key to success in this position. You will utilize your experience with critical thinking across multiple communications disciplines, including social, to provide guidance to a group of experts to ensure strong execution of plans. You will use analytics to support recommendations and show progress against goal.

You will be an important member of the Communications Leadership Team, contributing to functional direction, plans and team development. You are expected to take on enterprise wide projects and work. In this role, you will continue to grow, build, and develop your communication acumen along with your team of 5-6 experience business communicators.

This position can be based in New York City or Woonsocket RI.

Duties & Responsibilities:
* Uses a comprehensive understanding of the company’s enterprise and business growth strategy to craft comprehensive communications solutions that support the Business Unit’s ability to succeed.
* You will develop communications strategies that promote, protect and support the Business Unit brand and advice on critical communications matters.
* Using cross-industry best practices, innovative ideas and audience insight in developing communications strategies and tactics.
* You will drive execution of business area communications plans from the concept/planning stages through evaluation, ensuring on-time completion of deliverables and can adjust plans as needed.
* Drafting key messages and ensure timely and consistent communications to employees regarding business priorities.
* Committing to ensuring that all communications are error-free, accurate, appropriately vetted and consistent with CVSH’s core values.
* You will ensure consistent messaging in all communications vehicles, using the full spectrum of solutions including: in-person, electronic, print, and video. Demonstrate strategic understanding and practical application of the full suite of digital communications channels.
* Actively sharing new ideas and concepts that contribute to business area and enterprise-wide success.
* You will scan the broader business, economic and social environments to generate new ideas and methods for improving performance.
* Identifying and engaging internal and external partners whose support is needed to accomplish business goals.
* You will create a comprehensive issues management and crisis communications strategy for the business.
* Leveraging critical communications to help shape a culture of respect and integrity; to influence others to perform at their best; and to ensure compliance with company ethics and policies.
* You will build good relationships with colleagues enterprise-wide and serve as a trusted advisor.
* Leading, mentoring and developing a high-performing team of communications professionals; recruit new members to the team, as needed.
* You will prepare a realistic budget and manage within expectations.

Required Qualifications
* 10+ years of experience in increasingly responsible communications leadership or business leadership roles, including experience with internal and external communications.
* Ability to travel, as needed, per business needs.

Preferred Qualifications
* Prior experience in the healthcare, insurance and/or pharmaceutical industries.
* Proven ability to synthesize business strategies into communication solutions.
* Track record of identifying and pursuing relevant opportunities that result in increased audience awareness and understanding of core messages.
* Ability to establish relationships, integrate strategies, and connect the dots between messages, timing, and activities under other leaders’ influence.
* Deep expertise in writing and editing a wide variety of communications, both on short notice and as part of long-term initiatives.
* Record of independent thinking and initiative.
* Outstanding written, verbal, interpersonal and public speaking skills.
* Experience building strong collaborative relationships of trust and confidence with senior corporate leaders, operating business leaders, influencers, and partners throughout the company and healthcare industry.

Verifiable High School diploma or GED is required.
