SUMMARY:

Supervises the grounds keeping operations and auto shop activities overseeing multiple crews and work projects. Schedules work assignments; inspects completed work; maintains record of materials used, equipment, and projects progress. Instructs staff in safe and effective use and storage of plant chemicals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Performs supervisory functions; prepares work schedules, assigns staff, observes and reviews performance to provide input to formal evaluations, and makes recommendations for personnel actions; assists in staff selection and provides orientation, training and ongoing in-services for staff.  Schedules and supervises Grounds and Auto Shop functions and activities so as not to interrupt or interfere with patient care activities.

Demonstrates and upholds established standards of behavior, safety, and confidentiality, as well as TMCH and department policies and standards.  

Adheres to and supports staff in exhibiting TMCH values of integrity, community, compassion, and dedication. 

Exhibits excellence in customer service through appropriate attitude and interaction with all patients, visitors and staff.

Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

Monitors and controls expenses within approved budget allocations.

Coordinates planning, scheduling and implementation of activities to accomplish work in cooperation with other sections of department and other hospital departments and services.

Coordinates preventive maintenance with emergency and repair work activities.

Examines tools and equipment used by workers and ensures that safety measures are observed.

Inspects buildings and grounds to ensure conformance with established standards and regulations; inspects completed jobs and ensures conformance with hospital standards building and safety codes or engineering specifications.

Develops estimates of time, labor, material, and cost requirements; prepares cost estimates for projects.

Ensures completed and proper logging of files and records and required cost computation of time spent, material and supplies used for each completed work order.

Performs landscaper and auto shop duties as required.

Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:  High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:  Three (3) years related experience, preferably including lead or supervisory experience.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION:  Current licensure to apply pesticides; Respirator certification.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of auto mechanics and grounds maintenance, landscaping and irrigation practices.

  • Skill in supervising and leading staff.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries or complaints from employees, patients and/or their representatives, and the general public.

  • Ability to calculate figures and compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs; ability to apply basic algebraic concepts.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
