Job Description

Work Schedule: Varied Days and Hours

Location: Presbyterian Hospital


* Graduation from a program for Physician Assistants or Nurse Practitioner approved by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) of the American Medical Association, and possess a baccalaureate degree or two (2) years working experience as a Certified Physician Assistant or nurse practitioner.

* One to three years experience in cardiac surgery.

* NM NP or PA License

Assists Physicians during cardiac surgeries. Post operatively rounds on patients and manages patient care.


*Begins patient rounds at 0700. Sees post-op patients in IRR, writes progress notes & transfers orders as needed. And enters orders in PEO
*Midlevel (ML) in operating room to be in OR by 0730 and assists in having patient prepped, draped, 7 ready for 0800 start.
*Serves as Floor PA ML to start patient rounds on cardiac units. Removes pacer wires and chest tubes as needed.
*Prepares post op patient for discharge (prescriptions, coumadin, teaching, post-surgical teaching) and dictates discharge summaries.
*Checks all outstanding labs and CXR on in house patients.
*Responsible for seeing post op patients in office.
*Responsible for seeing pre op patients in office and ensuring H & P's, data sheets, pre-op orders & labs completed.
*Serves as on-call PA ML to check out with on-call surgeon at end of day. Checks pre-op patient labs & x-rays.
*Serves as Weekend call PA to meet with on-call surgeon.
*Performs other functions as required.

* SKILL-Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in person and via telephone with members, employer groups, brokers, physicians, and physician office staff using strong dialogue and customer service competencies.
