Position Summary

The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center (UNMHSC) Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC) is seeking a detail-oriented, results-driven individual to join our team as a Clinical Research Coordinator. The Research Coordinator needed for the Multiple Sclerosis clinical research program will be based at Domenici Hall on north campus. This is an outpatient facility supporting neurosciences research under the umbrella of the UNMHSC Brain and Behavioral Health Institute. In this position the successful applicant will be responsible for primarily coordinating research studies in Multiple Sclerosis in accordance with established study protocols and federal, local, and institutional policies and guidelines for clinical trials. This includes research study management and monitoring. Specific duties will include:

  • Recruitment, enrollment, and scheduling of research subjects.
  • Establishing and maintaining budgets and fiscal controls for the project.
  • Developing and maintaining record keeping systems and procedures.
  • Drawing and processing blood will be required for some studies.

TERM APPOINTMENT; FUNDING AVAILABLE THROUGH 03/31/2020; CONTINUANCE BEYOND THAT DATE SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY OF ADDITIONAL FUNDING. The UNM Clinical Research Center (CTSC) has over 35 years of continuous funding as a well-established NIH FUNDED research center.

The MS coordinator position is also a term position but the program seeks a stable research team over longer periods of time and is interested in coordinators with a longer employment horizon.

Conditions of Employment
  • Successful candidate may be required to submit to a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination/medical history check, depending on location and nature of position.
  • This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the USUNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Use and understanding of medical terminology.
  • Neurological or behavioral clinical research preferred.
  • Recruiting patients to participate in research studies.
  • Coordinating clinical trials.
  • Preparing applications and other documents for submission to an Institutional Review Board (IRB) or direct experience in IRB Administration.
  • Drawing and processing blood (experience and/or training).
  • Ability to work flex hours, as required by study
  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus but not required.


Optional Skills would include:

  • Data acquisition and analysis using Matlab platform.
  • Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM) fMRI analysis.
  • Ability to drive offsite to see patients, as required by study protocol.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
