The Mathematics Department of Valencia Campus is accepting applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor (dependent on qualifications) of Mathematics at UNM Valencia Branch Campus position which is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position. The position begins August 12, 2019.
Located about 30 miles south of Albuquerque in rural Valencia County, the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is a two-year branch community college associated with the University of New Mexico. With an emphasis on teaching excellence, Valencia Campus offers vocational and technical courses as well as academic transfer courses to the citizens of Valencia and northern Socorro counties. The faculty and staff serve a student body of approximately 2,300 each semester.
Summary of duties and responsibilities: Provide 15 credit hours of classroom instruction in mathematics, statistics, and/or mathematics education courses during each of fall and spring semesters. Responsibilities include maintaining attendance, scholastic, and student records, as well as posting and maintaining office hours, some of which may occur in the Learning Commons. Also, there is expected participation in college committees, curriculum development initiatives, outcomes assessment, professional development (directly related to teaching field), classroom technology training, departmental projects, and other areas of service and scholarship as appropriate. Responsibilities may include participation in Undergraduate Research initiatives related to current grant awards (as applicable).
· Master’s degree in Mathematics or in a closely related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Mathematics.
· One to two years of experience teaching developmental or freshman college-level Mathematics classes at a post-secondary institution.
· Ph.D. or ABD (all but dissertation) in Mathematics or closely related field.
· Two or more years teaching of a wide range of Mathematics courses at a two-year, post-secondary college.
· Commitment to and potential for service and professional development.
· Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
· Experience working with computer-based instruction, calculators and other technology in the classroom.
· Experience teaching online or hybrid/blended courses.
· A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
