Schedule: Regular FT 40 Hours Per Week

Reporting to the Director Clinical Informatics & Analytics, the Manager Business Intelligence & Analytics will direct, coordinate, and exercise functional authority for the planning, organization, control, and development of business intelligence, analytics, reporting, data integration and Epic database (DBA) activities. The position combines managerial responsibilities with a demonstrated technical expertise. The Manager is responsible for appropriate staffing, staff management, performance management and overall scheduling. This role will be a key leader in the Enterprise Data Management team. The position, and its team, fields and fulfills net-new requests for data analytics and business intelligence work products that are not met via standardized production reports/dashboards for Valleywise Health business users. This position is on the front line of transforming the user experience through the delivery of facilitated and consultative data services. This position makes determinations about new data and information assets created by operational and clinical stakeholders that should be submitted, maintained and available in the various data distribution platforms. In addition, this role is a key contributor to the design and implementation of self-service analytics models. This role will influence and guide data governance practices across Valleywise Health to transform data management practices via formal governance structures. This position is vital in defining a data culture that aligns with and further enables enterprise performance management.



  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (CS, MIS or DSS degree preferred). Graduate degree in a related field is desired.


  • Must have a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible SQL development, data modeling and/or business intelligence experience that demonstrates a strong understanding of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience managing multiple projects with increasing difficulty and complexity strongly preferred.
  • Requires prior direct or indirect supervisory/management experience preferably in a healthcare IT environment.

Specialized Training:

  • Epic systems training is preferred.


  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must have an in-depth and broad range knowledge of Epic applications in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Knowledge of relational and non-relational DBMS engines is required.
  • Must have knowledge of multiple Epic data models and a broad understanding of multiple BI, analytics and reporting tools.
  • Hands-on SQL development and data modeling.
  • Experience analyzing complex data, managing multiple projects with increasing difficulty and complexity, and developing sophisticated reports.
  • Certification in at least one Epic Cogito Data Model.
  • Deep expertise in complex modeling and analytical methodology.
  • Experience with statistical software tools such as SAS, Stata, or SPSS.
  • Advanced fluency with Microsoft Excel for data manipulation, analysis, and charting.
  • Experience with data visualization platforms such as Tableau, Qlik, PowerBI, and emerging advanced analytics platforms.
  • Experience with advanced analytic techniques, such as multivariate regression analysis, logistic regression, factor analysis, response prediction and ROI measurement.
  • Strong experience with data manipulation and analyzing large volumes of data. Solid understanding of database principles and efficiencies.
  • Must be a successful leader of people, have strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate a team.
  • Must have the ability to supervise and coordinate the work of subordinate personnel in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
  • Must be approachable, people oriented, and a good listener.
  • Must be a change agent able to develop, implement and maintain policies and processes.
  • Requires the ability to be a creative, independent thinker.
